Mrs. DeGrauwe – Peifer Library – Ext. 5446

Welcome to Peifer Library!

Students will visit the library once a week with their class for forty-five
minutes. At this time, they will return and check out their library books. To start
class, we will meet at the carpet to read a story. Following story time, students will
have table activities while they take turns browsing and checking out their books
for the week. Some weeks, we may do flashlight reading, floor puzzles, scavenger
hunts, or other activities that may go along with our story. As the students move to
higher grades, they will learn about the Dewey Decimal System, and how to locate
the kinds of books they are interested in. We have picture books, chapter books,
and nonfiction books of all sorts! It is my belief that there is a book, or genre, out
there for everyone. I aim to provide the students with enough time to look around
and discover what’s right for them.
Books are due back the following week during their library class time.
Please remind your child to put their books in a plastic bag to protect them from
food or water damage. If a student finishes a book before their next library visit,
they may come to the library from 8:10 – 8:25 to exchange books (at the discretion
of their teacher).
The library is the place students turn to for the discovery of ideas, the joy of
reading, and the power of information. Student needs drive our services and we
take a personal interest in ensuring that they are delivered in a welcoming,
convenient, and responsive manner. We are committed to supporting a lifelong
enjoyment of reading and learning.
